I have owned an HP Color LaserJet 2600n for the better part of two years now without a single problem. No replacement of the drum, Not a thing except buying more toner carts. So when it was time to look for a multifunction printer, I looked into the HP version and found that it's reviews were poor and so I looked into the Canon.
Needless to say I am very disappointed for a variety of reasons. If I could make this review ZERO stars, I would! I have owned the printer for a little less than a month and so far, here is what I have encountered:
1. Driver installation was a bit challening as the "auto-find" function to locate a printer on the network did not find a printer on the network. I had to manually add it by IP address. Sure no biggie if your an IT guy but (1) I am NOT and (2) the HP driver found my printer right away without a hassle.
2. Once installed, I had (and am still having) trouble printing the right quantities. For example, if I say I want 20 copies of a document, I will only get 1 because the Print Options seem to reset themselves to the default when you hit print button. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A maddening quirk.
3. Printer Drum burned out after less than 1 month of use. I had to spend $200 on a new one after spending nearly $700 on the printer.
4. Tech support was not helpful in that they wanted me to send the drum back and they would tell me in 2-3 weeks if they felt it was covered under the warranty. I guess my business will just not print anything for the next month until they decide if I can get a new one.
5. Once I opened up the printer to see what the deal with the print drum was, I found the yellow toner cartridge had burst and went all over the inside of my printer. Gee... guess I found the reason why the drum burnt out.
6. Noisy! Wow, this thing whirrs and clicks like nobody's business. And it takes forver to warm up.
7. Slow - Canon claims a 4 page per minute color output. Not even close. More like 1 or 2. Even B&W is slow unless you adjust the print options to print in pure black and white. At least the HP printer is smart enoguh to figure out that even though it is set to print in color, if the doucment contins no color, they whip out of there in a heartbeat.
So overall, my advice is avoid this printer! Sad but true, you do not get what you pay for unless you like spending $700 a month to buy a new printer...
UPDATE: I just got off the phone with Canon. Was on the phone for 1 hour and 15 minutes, spoke to 3 different reps and couldn't get a refund for my damaged parts. They wanted to send me a refurbished printer even though this printer I own is 15 days old. I am selling the printer and going back to HP!!!
