(More customer reviews)I've had this printer for about 3 weeks and am extremely pleased. I've used it for text printing, copying, scanning and, more recently, photo printing. The performance has been terrific - I printed out an 8x10 photo that looks comparable to one produced by a portrait studio. For photo printing, it is critical to take the picture at high resolution, and to ensure that the printer is set to the proper settings (e.g. the "best photo" setting, photo paper setting, and several others.). While I've read reviews on other sites that complain about photo quality printing on this model, I think that following these guidelines and using good photo quality paper ensures good quality printing.Also, the printer does not seem to drink up ink cartidges the way others are reputed to, and has the convenience (and economy) of allowing you to replace separate color ink cartridges.

Epson Stylus Photo RX680 Photo All-in-One Printer Review

(More customer reviews)Boy after reading the last few posts, I was worried when I bought one for my wife the "PhotoNut" However, the package arrived in perfect condition, I bought direct from Epson. All the pieces were in the box properly packed, we installed the software, simple, loaded the cartridges as indicated by the instructions, plugged into the USB port, printer was found right away. We tried the copy and enhance the color option first, WOW!!! I had a 15 year old collage group shot that hung on a wall and faded, the redo brought it back to life. Its not perfect, but WOW anyway
I love this printer. My wife spent hours last night playing with it and handed me a stack of really great looking prints this morning I was impressed! We currently have a HP Photosmart 1000 and a Epson Picture Mate Both still work fine, but the 680 takes the prize!!!
For those of you that have had problems, I don't know what to say, for anybody reading this, I really like it, so does my wife.

I am on my 2nd replacement printer (my 3rd CX7000F in all) and it, too, DOES NOT work. This model will tell you a brand new ink cartridge needs to be replaced. I wasted a couple extra hundred dollars on more ink, because I thought the cartridge that came from the store was used. Then I learned that this is an Epson problem.
I will be calling tech support again on Monday. This saga has been ongoing since May. (It's July). I appreciate Epson sending me replacement printers, but since they don't work, it's of no use. I don't know who is doing the manufacturing, but they have screwed up a component. Too bad for Epson, because I will never buy another one of their printers again.

Epson Artisan 700 Photo All-in-One Printer (Black) (C11CA30201) Review

(More customer reviews)I like the printer, and I would recommend it. My only real complaint is the total cost of ownership is high. Order a set of ink at $60 when you order the printer, because within a couple weeks of starting it up, you'll need to replace them.
Pros:
1. Instructions were great for wireless install.
2. Prints quality is good.
3. Machine looks great.
4. The printer has never failed to print.
Cons:
1. 6 individual ink cartridges at $10 each, or $15 each for high capacity.
2. The printer's initial startup uses about 1/2 of the ink that ships with the printer. This is explained in the manual.
3. There is no information on the difference between the high capacity ink cartridges and the standard.
4. I don't think you'll find aftermarket Epson ink like you can with some brands.
5. Sometimes the printing takes a couple minutes to get started.
6. I get a lot of error messages, mostly "The printer has detected some print head nozzles are clogged. To help with the nozzle recovery please wait 6 hours. Then try printing again." Helpdesk's suggestion was that I go into the menu and turn off the print nozzle check. That is an odd solution, but the printer continues to print fine.
7. With the number of print errors I get, and the time it takes to start printing (sometimes), I've never felt totally comfortable with the printer. But helpdesk was responsive, and I've got the box if I need to send it back to Epson.

Tamarack Technologies 2400 FS Film Scanner Review

(More customer reviews)I bought mine from Amazon for about three weeks ago for justunder $200. Considering that ProLab here in Seattle charges $3 perpicture scanned, it seemed like a good deal in the long run.
Myexperience with it so far: the scanner does a great job with photostaken in bright, even sunlight but has a tougher time withhigh-contrast pics -- especially those with big patches of black. Trueblack on a color slide often comes out filled with rainbow splotcheson the scan. (I haven't scanned any color negatives yet.)
On theupside, the scanner comes with Adobe PhotoDeluxe, which is a choppedversion of Photoshop. It's pretty good for fixing defects like theabove. A guy I talked to at Prolab said even the high-end scanner theyuse doesn't render slides/negs perfectly, and that you still need somesort of photo software. So the Tamarack's shortcomings may be commonto all analog-to-digital transfers. PROS:
* Scanner pays for itselfonce you get beyond 60 photos
* Small footprint; about the size of abrick
* Good choice for pics that will end up on the Web
* UsefulAdobe software
CONS:
* Doesn't handle true blacks well
*Documentation is atrocious, very badly translated from Chinese END

(More customer reviews)This unit can do it all (except fax). The software is a dream compared to the HP2150 I returned in order to get this. I got the HP because it had built in wireless/ethernet print server and a fax. But the software bundle is all or nothing, they didn't separate out the printer driver...so anyone who wants to just print on the thing must first install 1.5gb (thats GIGabytes) of crap the infects your registry like a cancer. This Epson RX600's software is a dream. They separated everything! Just want to print occasional black and white like me, driver is just 8mb. Want everything and do photo touchups and crazy things and photo albums and scan (like my wife) - just put in the cd and add what you want one app at a time. That's why we went with this printer and returned the HP. Also, one more plus is that the RX600 scans old negatives and can print them perfectly or digitize them for you forever - the HP can't. I LOVE this feature (and yes, it's a combo of mechanical and software differences that achieve this, I dare you to try on another machine). I do miss the HP's built in print server. I bought a Linksys Wireless-G for USB2.0, and it won't work with this printer. Epson wrote me back and confirmed this. This is why I docked this review by a star. You MUST be able to run your printers from a print server. My 4 year old HPLaserJet3150 hooked up no problem, but my new Epson fails? That sucks, and if my wife didn't love this so much, I would send it back strictly for that reason. I do like how it's USB 2.0, it is fast. Separate color tanks (...)are sweet, not like HP where if blue runs out, you're forced to buy all other colors again. This has 6 color tanks all independently replaceable. Nice.
PROS: USB2.0, individual color tanks, scan negatives,LCD screen, front loading usb input for cameras, built in card reader on the front,great b/w quality, killer photo print quality, minimal/incremental/customizable software/driver install (extremely flexible and lightweight)
CONS: doesn't work w/ LinkSys print servers

Epson Stylus CX9400Fax Color All-in-One Printer Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this printer from Amazon for under 100 dollars, no tax, no shipping. Here's what I got: an excellent photo quality printer, copier, scanner, pdf creator and fax machine with auto-feeder. I am baffled by the people who post one or two stars about this machine. Go to any store and you can hardly buy any printer, any copier, any scanner, any fax machine, or any pdf creator software for 100 bucks, and this unit has them all built into one nice looking box. There is also a very capable OCR application.
I am very tired of hearing how much ink costs. A printer should not be measured by the price of ink but strictly by how much it costs to print each page, and Epson tends to be at the low end of the spectrum. I also don't care how much ink is left in the tank or if it has a chip, again the issue is how much a page will cost me. I do not work for or represent Epson, and hope to point out the negatives as well as the positives. I own 3 Epson printers and 4 HP printers. I don't own Canon or Brother because at the lower end of the spectrum I think their products are very cheesy. Let's talk about the CX9400Fax. I doubt if a better value exists anywhere near the price range. My experience is that individual tanks are the better choice but I'm not sure it really makes a huge difference.
Don't even think of rating a printer by how "fast" it is, with inkjets that spec is a ridiculous fantasy ... there is just no such thing as 32 pages a minute in real life! I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised how much faster this unit was than just one generation ago. In photo mode I would estimate real-life printing to be four times faster than the CX7400 and at least as good, if not better. Epson has always excelled is photo quality and the CX9400Fax is no exception. As a fax machine it is adequate for home office use and the small number of faxes people send from home. Same with it being a copier and scanner, for the price it does a good job. It seems built a little sturdier than most competitive models. It sounds, well, like a printer. I don't know how anyone could expect a mechanical device to be totally silent. Ease of use is pretty close to flawless.
Here's a couple of "secrets" that address concerns some of the other reviewers had. First, if you think the printer is running out of ink too often and you swear you don't print that much, you are probably right. Epson, like some other manufacturers, has to prime the heads every time you turn the printer on, which uses ink. That costs money and I wish there was a better way. But, simple solution, leave the printer on 24/7. There is no logical reason to turn it off between each use , especially if you are using it as a fax machine, since it automatically goes in to a sleep mode. Another well documented Epson feature is that you can force it to print using only black ink. There are a lot of reviewers who say they ran out of all colors when they think they only printed in black and white. While they may be right, it's hard to blame Epson. The manufacturer clearly has a "black" only setting in the print options, plus they offer a high-capacity black tank for those who do a lot of text printing.
It is important to note that if you want to fax from a document that is on your computer you need to have the CX9400Fax connected to a phone line, just like any fax machine. It won't magically send a fax through your internet connection. There are ways you can do that but not with a traditional fax machine.
So, what is the image quality? In "draft" mode it is marginal but that's what draft mode means. Draft mode is not intended for quality printing, just to quickly print a document that you intend to throw out.
As you increase the quality settings, the Epson magic sets in. Normal mode is as good as any printer on the shelf. Photo mode is almost as good as it gets. The highest quality modes are marginally better, you have to have a fine eye to tell the difference, but the real story is that it is very hard to beat an Epson photo when printed at the best modes with the highest grade papers.Moral? If you print in draft mode and expect high quality you are seriously fooling yourself.
The final observation is that many people complain that a set of ink tanks cost as much as the printer or that printer manufacturers don't include an USB cable. Those complaints just can't be taken seriously. Can you remember paying over $500 for an inkjet printer only 10 years ago and how badly it printed? We have demanded that our consumer electronics be made by cheap labor in China, which has brought hardware prices down to a cost almost equal to the cost of materials. 100 bucks for a machine that does as much as the CX9400Fax is ridiculously low! Sure, it may be a throwaway, but that's what people want. The USB cable issue is even funnier. How many USB cables does the average person own? The percentage of people buying a printer who have never bought a printer before is near zero. And if you seriously don't have a USB cable you can find one for a buck-and-a-half right here at Amazon. And complaints about ink costs? They have stayed the same for many years. When you buy a car you need to fill it with gas, when you buy a printer you need to fill it with ink. It's what you choose to do. Gas prices have risen a lot more than inkjet prices.
My final somewhat negative comment about this printer as well as most competitive brands, is that they just try to do too much. Yes, I want a printer/scanner/fax/copier but the media card slots and LCD screens are overkill. Fine if you want them but I believe most people know how they can do the same thing and more directly from their computer.
MORE: read this carefully
After a few weeks of owning this printer, using it daily to print normal business documents, the ink level had hardly moved. Then one day the repair people were here to check the air conditioner and turned the power off for a few minutes. Ok, it wasn't a surprise to me because I know that printers need to "charge" when powered up, but when the power came back on a full 20% of the ink was used to prime the printer when if turned it back on. I have to repeat what I said in my review, NEVER turn this machine off, it uses almost zero power when in standby and I guarantee that if you turn it off every day you will use a ton of ink needlessly like so many reviewers report. After the power off incident, I am back to printing lots of normal documents each day and the ink indicator hasn't even moved. Verdict? It's not the printer's fault that some people go through a lot of ink, it's because they didn't read the instructions.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this printer on 9/25/08. All in all, a really excellent AIO printer. I've been waiting for Epson to put out a printer like this with all the options I wanted in one compact package.
There are some gotchas that you won't know until you set it up. I was on the phone with Epson support for over an hour before even they realized these features weren't available.
1. The Front Panel Scan To features only works if the printer is connected via USB. It does not work at all if the printer is connected to your network either hard-wired or wireless.
2. You can only use the memory card reader on the printer if it is connected via USB. Again, this feature does not work if the printer is connected to your network.
3. Per Epson support, you cannot use both the USB and Ethernet connections together. It's one or the other. I'm going to try it anyway since it took Epson support an hour to tell me that the Scan To and Memory Card Readers only work using a USB connection.
4. On a Mac (I don't know about Windows yet), you should uninstall any Epson Scan software for any other Epson AIO's that were connected to your computer before installing the Artisan 800 software. Also, be sure to run the Epson Scanner Utility and select the appropriate connection type. It defaults to LOCAL even if you set it up as a Network printer. That was a pain in the butt since nowhere in the documentation does it tell you about this.
5. For a $300.00 printer, it should have included the Duplexer, which is a $29.00 option direct from Epson. Epson is showing no stock for the Duplexer as of 9/26/08.
Also, don't be fooled into buying extra print cartridges when you buy the printer because the sales person tells you that the cartridges are only half full . Epson actually included full print cartridges with this printer.
If you can live without the Scan To PC, PDF and Email features, as well as the Memory Card Reader working using a networked connection, than I highly recommend this printer. With these shortcomings, it is an excellent printer.

(More customer reviews)Here's the deal... EPSON tricks you. Does it print well? Yes, but you can't print a B&W page without having color working. And worse yet, it uses teeny bits of color each time you print B&W so that you can't just NOT use color. I am a PhD student. I discovered this in the middle of printing an assignment. I scrambled to the lab at the university. Later I found out the whole thing STOPS and cannot be forced if you don't have ALL your ink loaded. So Cost of ink: Black: $16, colors, $13 each, times 4= $68; New canon printer at Wal Mart--which ALLOWS you to force B&W printing and has all the same functions of my EPSON rip off: $54.88.
Peace of mind: Priceless

(More customer reviews)I had abandoned Epson years ago and switched to Lexmark printers because of the great "deals" that could be had. I decided to give up on Lexmark because of all the problems I've encountered with their printers. You get what you pay for I suppose. I figured I'd give Epson a chance before going elsewhere and I'm glad I did!
Initially I was looking at the NX515 because of the Wifi capabilities, but decided the price bump wasn't worth it. I paid somewhere around $60.00 for this machine, and I feel it was worth every penny.
The first thing I noticed, which I couldn't find in other AIO printers in the same price range, is separate ink cartridges for each color. The printer takes 4 cartridges, one each for CMKY. Each replacement cartridge costs about $13. While not the cheapest, you still save money in the long run because you don't have to replace all 3 colors at once as you do with a single multi-color cartridge.
The scanner is AMAZING to say the least. You can scan up to 4800 DPI which is more than enough for most people. At the highest scan resolution you can see each individual fiber on a sheet of paper! Excellent for making high resolution photos out of regular 4x6 film photos. Print quality is very nice. Faster than most AIO's out there. Photo printing is nice with no graininess or streaks. Edges are crisp and well defined, saturation and color matching is good.
Navigational buttons are simple and easy to use. Menus are user friendly. The small LCD screen is a big help ( it adjusts to give a better viewing angle) and turns off after a few minutes of disuse to save energy. Memory card reader is simple to use once you figure out which way they're supposed to go in. You can crop, rotate, and print photos right from the printer and it's surprisingly easy.
My only complaint is that it only comes in black! In all it's a cheap printer with some wonderful features that's a perfect companion to any computer.

(More customer reviews)The bonus here is the included negative scanner. I didn't buy this from Amazon (sorry, someone else beat the price), but I am pleased with it.
The other reviewer (at this time) complained about the lack of usb cables--but I'm not entirely sympathetic. First, this is standard practice for Epson. If you didn't know it wasn't there, then you probably haven't bought an Espon before this. Second, there is actually a good reason for this: most people are not buying a first printer at this point, and pretty much all cables are the same (as long the connectors fit, you're good to use it). This cuts down on their costs, which hopefully means a slightly less expensive printer. I personally have 3 or four cables for this printer, and don't want any more.
As far as quality goes--I don't have any complaints. It does borderless (edge-to-edge) printing on cardstock (doesn't support it on regular paper) without any problems, which is one of the things I look for in a printer. It also doesn't show any banding or striping, which is good for printing photos.
Memory stick support is good (I have a Sony camera that uses Memory Stick), and works well.
Overall, a solid printer. As long as the print heads stay clean, I'll be happy.

This printer has great specs. and great features, and it's brand new. But there's only one little problem: it consumes ink like a drunk at a cocktail party.
We're not just talking a weekend binge either, we're talking something along the lines of only 40 copies per 4-cartridge ink pack. I've printed nothing but web pages-- no photos at all-- and some of them are draft; about 30 in total.
Despite this, the blue and yellow cartridges are 75% empty, the magenta is heading there as well, and the black is at 50%.
This is unacceptable, and I suspect Epson is aware of the problem. These new inks are highly volatile and they dry fast, but that means they're testy in the cartridge as well. After a week of limited use, there has been a precipitous drop in the ink levels.
Epson already has out a "high-capacity" black replacement cartridge, which I suspect SOON will be the standard and only one for this printer. No doubt they will also upgrade the color ink capacity as well.
Until then--- you've been warned! The few people who have been using this printer so far are all in agreement: there's something wrong here. So let them fix it first.

My wife wanted a printer to print occasional text and some photos. I was under the assumtion that you either want to print photos period or text period and if you want to print text then you're better off with a laser printer and if you want to print photos then get a good dedicated photo printer.
My wifes camera is a small digital. She's been printing pictures from her mothers printer which are painfully pixelated. I didn't want to get something that poor, I insisted on something somewhat better. I thought I'd have to spend $500+ which you can, but she insisted she didn't want something that expensive for scrapbooking. I saw this for $200 and bit my lip. The printers I use at work cost thousands. I thought this would be painfully slow, cheap, marginal quality.
This printer prints amazingly well. It's considered on the high end for a photo printing ink jet. The 8 colors would be better but I've found the quality is as good as a 1-hour lab. That's a lot or a little depending on your expectations. But for $200 I think it's a very good deal.
If you want to print simple text, for reference and not graphics it prints pretty well and faster than I thought.
It seems substantial and well constructed. It has features I didn't realize they put into $200 printers.
This model, the 320 has a little flip up screen for viewing your images if you want to print directly from a memor card. the 300 doesn't and this was $20 more. My wife likes that option. I prefer retouching and printing from the computer.
I knew that I wanted separate ink cartridges for each color. This printer uses 6 colors and 6 separate ink cartridges. Some printer using 6 colors use only 2 cartidges with 3 colors each. The trouble with that is if you run out of 1 color and the others are half full, you'd be wasting money having to replace 3 colors when there's still ink left in the others.
You can even print wireless if your printer supports Bluetooth technology. $69 will get you the adapter for the printer.
If you're planning to print postscript files from a postscript drawing program then you need a postscript compatible laser printer or perhaps you could use this type of printer with a postscript emulation software. I haven't looked into that yet. Don't even ask anyone at Circuit City or similar retail outlets since they don't know what "postscript" means.
Overall I am very very happy with this printer.

This badboy copies,prints and scans just like the older CX5200 model that was discontinued by Epson but it also does borderless printing and its quiet!!!

SETUP - a breeze, open up the box, remove all that funky tape, plug it in, insert the 4 cartridges, flip that scanner lock switch, install the software, plug in the usb port. Took me 5 minutes, no problems at all.
NOISE - Only noise this unit makes is when its first turned on, it initalizes and does all kinds of stuff, takes 2 mins, when its idle, its whisper quiet. When it prints, there is only the humm of paper being printed, not loud at all, the CX5200 made a horrible sound when it printed, they fixed it in this unit.
SPEED - print speed is very fast, b&w or color - no waiting for it to catch up. i printed 20 pages that came out before my coffee was even cold. Best photo printing is the slowest mode as expected, so be patient.
OUTPUT - paper comes out dry, text is rich and clean, looks like a laser printer. color is very sharp and crisp, no problems here. this unit does 8 1/2x11 borderless printing too, amazing. 5700x1440 dpi is very nice and durabrite ink comes out dry.
SCANNING - it scans 1200x2400 dpi @ 48bit which in english means your color or b&w scans will come out exactly as the original, i scanned a magazine page and my keys, no blurs or distortion at all, job well done epson.
COPYING - you dont need the pc to do copying, it does color and b&w copying just like a real copier would, enlargments/reductions/lighten or darken the image and zoom and # of copies, its all there. the scanning are is too small to handle legal size paper, but i dont think any of the multifunction printers can.
CONCLUSION - i give it a 5 stars, the CX5200 had paper loading problems-fixed here, it also had slow photo printing-fixed here. This unit also displays the ink levels in printer config or control panel and ink is a **lot** cheaper and lasts longer than any of the HP mfc's.
DISLIKES - only things for epson to work on, makes the power cord removeable to the unit so its easier to feed under a desk, put the usb port in back of the unit so the cable doesn't get bent, make the control panel on the printer a little bigger, and maybe add a sleep mode so it will use less electricity when idle for 10 mins or more.
There are tons of options to set in printer config, too many to explain here. Epson came out with this CX5400 model and the CX6400 model, personally, the CX6400 looked huge to me, 23" wide and wouldn't fit on my desk.
Still waiting for a review from zdnet or pcworld, wonder whats taking them so long ?
CX5200 and CX5400 uses the same ink carts...epson says black will last 1000 pages, and color around 300 pages give or take a few. I can tell you from experience, the HP2210 lasted 35 color pages and about 70 black.
Good job Epson... HP should be ashamed for charging twice the price for the same features and way overcharging for ink cartridges.

Epson Ultra High Definition R260 Photo Inkjet Printer Review

(More customer reviews)After using another Epson inkjet for five years with excellent results (Model 785EPX) I bought the R260 about 3 months ago so I could print CDs and take advantage of the five individual color cartridges instead of a single 5-color cartridge.
My idea was that now I could replace only the individual color cartridges as they were used up rather than replace the whole 5-color cartridge when only one color was used up. Since the combined size of the five individual color cartridges on the R260 is much larger than the single 5-color cartridge, I expected much longer cartridge life, less waste, and lower ink costs with the R260.
Was I wrong! I was completely blown away by how quickly the ink levels drop in the R260 color cartridges. While you're printing, you can see the levels drop significantly after each print. After 25 prints, some of the color cartridges needed replacement!
So, instead of getting 50-60 prints out of the single smaller 5-color cartridge, I am getting half as many prints out of the larger single color R260 cartridges.
Since the amount of ink used for each print is about the same as my old printer, the only answer is that Epson is putting a tiny amount of ink in each R260 cartridge.
What makes it worse is that Epson charges you $15 for each cartridge at their on-line store. The high-capacity cartridges with 50% more ink are $20 each (33% more), but that only helps a little.
I am considering throwing the R260 away and staying with my older Epson. When that dies, I will definitely switch brands unless Epson comes back down to planet Earth on ink capacity/cost issues.

(More customer reviews)Well... I finally made the jump to a printer, scanner, and copier and I decided to make it an Epson due to the price and individual printer cartridges. I want to issue a very serious buyer beware though and I implore you not to take this lightly. I'm not one to complain very much but this printer warrants it. Let's start with the good first. This is a very attractive looking printer, it prints well (except draft mode could be a tad darker for my taste), and it scans pretty well (not very many options to scan into other programs though). Why do I give it a one though?
Well... I got this printer about 2 weeks ago. Since then I have not printed in color at all and usually print stuff in draft mode. Well... it turns out after 2 weeks that all three of the individual color printer cartridges are almost expended!!!!! 2 weeks of no use and I need to buy three new ones? I contacted the company to see what was going on and they told me it is due to the way the printer is designed. The cartridges "prime" even if you don't use them for the print job. 2 weeks of "priming" and I almost need new cartridges which are quite pricey compared to HP, Kodak, and Canon. Plus... when my color cartridges run out... even if I still only print in black... my printer will fail to operate. Plus... I heard you can't even scan when a cartridge it out. So... you are pretty much forced to go buy a cartridge. Plus... it is quite hard to use generic ink due to the way they designed the printer. Once you do succeed you have to click "ok" to prompts because you didn't use Epson ink. I hope everyone will heed my warning. This printer will quickly be very expensive.

(More customer reviews)I am SO SO SO unhappy for buying this printer. If I continued to use it, it would cost me over $1 per page in ink supplies - why? Because I print very few pages, and this printer consumes ink without printing.
Apparently, every time it is turned on, or every time the computer is turned on or every time it is connected to a computer, it is programmed to "use" ink, or at least make you/the computer think it has used ink.
I have printed less than 20 pages TOTAL in approx 2 months, and all but 5 of them with the "Use Black Ink Only" option in properties, yet, all 3 color cartridges are down to 1 notch before totally empty, and the black level is 2 notches above empty. A set of black and color ink cartridges is about $40 - you do the math - less than 40 pages printed = $40 in ink?
Searching the Internet, I learn that Epson (as well as some other ink jet makers) intentionally do this - this should be illegal. Someone needs to sue these unethical greedy Sob's.
