Pros:
* They simply do not jam. I've run a printing operation serving 2500 residents for eight years and have never had a workgroup laserprinter be so reliable.
* They work well in an 'open' printing environment. We us PostScript and accept about 25% of our jobs from Macs, 70% from PCs - mostly XPSP2, and 5% Linux. There are no noticeable OS issues. We've seen that certain versions of Acrobat on Windows or Mac may fail to print, particularly with large file sizes (>300MB ps) or with full-page mathematical notations, but Adobe upgrades fix that on Windows and Preview fixes that on Mac.
* Changing toner is a no-brainer.
* The print quality is excellent for both text and color images. I'm uncertain why Andre's experience was so poor, but believe it was an anomaly.
Cons:
* It's slow. Expect to wait the 20 seconds or so for first page out unless you've just printed another job. And, when it starts printing, it's no speed demon. If you are setting up only one or so, the sleep time is configurable, but with 14 of these deployed and managed by student staff, we merely put printers in place, out-of-box. Stick with Xerox workgroup printers for speedy KW printing.
* It's heavy. Two person heavy. Really.
* It's bigger than your average printer.

Samsung CLX-3160FN Color Laser Multifunction Printer Review

(More customer reviews)THE HUNT FOR THE PERFECT ALL-IN-ONE OFFICE MACHINE!
Like one of the other reviewers here, I am in real estate and needed a multifunction machine that used color laser printing instead of inkjet.
But the major consideration for me was a Scan-to-Email (PDF) functionality. When you are working on deals in multiple cities, scanning the large documents is much easier than Fedexing paper all over the place.
I couldn't find any comprehensive reviews on this product because of how new it was. Now that I've owned it for a couple of months, I figure I better post one myself to help out those who are looking at this machine.
After running the machine for a couple of months I am quite happy with it and it is running well. Basic setup of the machine out of the box was very simple with easy visual instructions and tabs. Out of the box I could do color copies, black and white copies, and faxing. Setting up the printer driver over the network was very simple too. Setting up the network scanning and scan-to-email functions involved a bit more pain.
PERFORMANCE BY FEATURE-
COPIES - It makes great black and white copies and decent color copies. Copying is simple, Green button for a color copy, Grey button for B/W copy. You can copy multiple pages via the document feeder or lift the lid and copy something odd sized on the flatbed. My only gripe is that you have to wait for the unit to warm up before hitting the copy button. It would be great if I could just put the document in the feeder, hit the button and walk away, instead of staring at it while it warms up. But it does warm up quickly. Sleep settings for the copier are selected in the web-based control panel.
FAX- Its a fax, I don't know what else to say. It works fine for me, but I don't use the fax function that much.
PRINTER- I can print from my wireless laptop, sweet! The printer setup on the network was relatively simple. I installed the driver, the software found the printer and configured itself and I was up and running. I found that print quality was too thin on the regular setting, I changed it to BEST quality in the printer driver and it looks great now.
My only gripe with the printer function is the additional Software Samsung installs. They included this program called Dr. Printer or something like that, supposed to troubleshoot printer problems. However, it doesn't support the network printing at all. I had the network printing setup perfectly, but I was curious what the Dr. Printer software did. So I ran it, it says "I found and fixed the problem". It had totally deleted all of my network printer settings and set the printer up as local USB connected printer. So I had to reinstall the whole network printing thing again. Damn my curiousity.
SCANNING- You can scan from the flatbed or the auto feeder in either legal or letter size. You can either send the document as an e-mail directly from the machine or send it directly to your computer. Sounds great, unfortunately it won't do all of these things without being set up first.
Scanning direct to e-mail on this machine is my favorite feature, but it was also the hardest damn thing to initially set up. The network scanning feature (scan to your computer instead of e-mail direct from the machine) was much easier to setup.
SCANNING, TWO DIFFERENT WAYS--
SCANNING TO YOUR COMPUTER VIA THE NETWORK- This function requires the installation of software and it also requires your computer to be on when you are scanning. I found this feature reasonably easy to setup. You push scan, network scan, and then select a destination for the scan on your computer... such as Adobe Acrobat, or particular folders you setup. The scan then magically launches the application on your computer and the document is right in front of you ready to be e-mailed or manipulated.
BUT, each network scan destination can only handle one setup. That means the paper size, resolution and color/BW settings are written in stone for each preset. Which drove me crazy because the only application I use is Acrobat. I got around this by setting up seperate preset folders for the type of scan I was doing, like "Color Legal" "B/W Letter". The good part about doing this is that I don't have to hunt for the file regardless of what folder it goes to because Acrobat automatically launches with the scan open on the screen. From there I usually e-mail or save it where I want it to go.
SCAN DIRECTLY TO E-MAIL FROM THE MACHINE- The direct "scan to e-mail" function was the hardest thing to setup. You have to have an actual POP e-mail address for your scanner, which is how it sends PDFs or JPGs of TIF files directly from the box. Getting an e-mail account setup is simple enough, but the control panel won't recognize the servers by name, for example standard pop mail server names list POP.GMAIL.COM. Instead you have to actually convert the server names into IP addresses (I found a website somewhere that did this) and insert that IP address into the control panel.
Once setup, the scan-to-email function works just as you'd expect. But it requires way too many key strokes on the machine to actually send the document. "Are you sure, Are you really sure, Are you really really sure?" (not exact quotes, but you get the idea)
I'm in my late-twenties with a background in the tech field, yet programming this direct-to-email function had me cussing and pulling my hair out. I imagine most people will setup the network scanning application and stop there. The network scanning application is actually a lot more versitile than the direct scan-to-email, even though it requires you to have your computer turned on. But using the network scanning the document just appears, then you can forward it to whatever e-mail you want via your computer (and keep your hair).OVERALL, I'll give it 4 stars. Revolutionary product, not quite all the bugs shaken out.
PROS:
Very quiet for a Color Laser- Color Laser machines generally sounds like jets taking off, but this unit isn't so bad. Its not silent, but not bad.
Easy setup out of the box for color laser copying and faxing.
Easy setup of printer drivers for printing through the network.
Only machine I found with color laser printing, an auto-document feeder and flatbed and robust scanning features.
CONS:
Small LCD Display with no backlight- No big deal if the room is well lit, but if its dark you can't see what you are doing.
Direct-to-Email Scanning feature is not worth the trouble it takes to configure. (Use the included Network Scanning software instead, you have to have your computer turned on but it is much easier!)One good firmware or software update would solve all of my cons, except the LCD display. But, overall I'm happy with my purchase.

I would rather pay more to get another brand of Print/Copy/Scan/Fax if I knew the speed performance before I bought it. If you don't need the fax function, there are some other cheaper machines that work faster than this one.

HP CM1312NFI Color LaserJet Printer Review

(More customer reviews)This is NOT in the same class as the much more expensive 3500 series color MFPs, and it is not supposed to be. At a cost of 1/5th the bigger printers, you need to lower your expectations, but you still get a lot of printer for the money. I've had many inkjet printers and installed many color and BW laser printers. The first laser printer I used was an Apple LaserWriter in about 1987, so my experience with these devices is quite extensive. I have this installed in a home office networked via a simple wireless router and print/scan with XP, Vista, and Win7-64.
Positives:
+ Much faster and sharper printing than even high-quality inkjets when printing typical office documents
+ Prints evenly and consistently even large areas of highly saturated color on plain paper, unlike the banded printing from inkjets on plain paper
+ Easy to install on XP, Vista, and Win7 64 as both a USB and network printer
+ Quiet
+ Sheetfeeder is convenient and reliable
+ Prints at the same speed and quality regardless of how long it sits idle or off, unlike an inkjet printer that often needs cartridges replaced or cleaned after sitting idle for a couple of weeks.
+ Doesn't spew gobs of ink on paper at random intervals, which many inkjets do, especially after they've been sitting idle for some time
+ EXCELLENT print output - very sharp even at small print sizes and fine lines
Negatives:
- I have the same problems as others when scanning using the sheetfeeder: Scans always come out as 8.5 x 14.
- Low paper capacity. Why doesn't EVERY printer come with a 500 sheet bin? Do manufacturers really save any money by making the smaller bin?
- Manual feed is not easy to use. Basically, you need to pull out the drawer and put what you want printed in the regular drawer.
- Scanning from front panel isn't working for me, which should be easy to do. Perhaps this is the problem others indicate when they say it is hard to set up. Scanning is fine when you start it from the computer.
- Won't email without talking to a computer. I really like that feature in the more expensive models, and it shouldn't be that difficult to implement.
- Wont' print truly photo-quality as well as a photo inkjet, but the prints on photo paper are still VERY good.
- Do I REALLY need a THREE HUNDRED megabyte package of drivers and software just to print? How about a light-weight software option HP? Better yet, how about building the drivers into the printer's built-in web server so that I don't have to get those monster packages from the Internet? Why can't I manage ALL settings from the built-in web pages?
-+ I wasn't satisfied with the default scan settings, but after tweaking to boost the image quality, I am happy with the scan quality and speed.
Regarding the price of prints: Although a set of cartridges sets you back about 260 bucks, that will not get you anywhere near the $1.00+ price per page others talk about. My conservative estimate at cost is about $0.15/page in color including paper, less in B/W. If you force B/W printing for most output, you will be closer to $0.04/page. Having spent a ton of money on ink cartridges for inkjets, only to waste much of the ink on cleaning and reprints when gobs of ink land on my output, I think the overall cost of ownership will be close to even or better when compared to a typical inkjet. Counting the cost of time and frustration in the cost of using an inkjet will further weigh the cost per print in favor of the CM1312nfi.
Some other "negative" points are speed, lack of duplex scanning/printing, and some other bells and whistles mentioned in other reviews. I don't count these negative points against this printer since these are features that you really can't expect in this price class. I looked long and hard at the HP CM2320, but the much higher cost of entry didn't seem to pay off for me. Including a set of cartridges, the 1312 costs 30-50% less than the 2320.
I compared this printer to Brother and Samsung MFPs at a local office supply store. The output quality, speed, and overall build quality are significantly higher than similarly priced competitors. The output quality of a color brochure copied on each of the brands is what sold me on the HP - the CM1312 output is MUCH better than the other brands. I also expect to be able to service and purchase supplies for an HP long after Samsung and Brother are forgotten about.
I'd give this printer a solid 4 stars if I could get the scanning from the front panel and the auto page size recognition to work. I won't count things against this printer that it really isn't designed to handle, like true photo quality and high speed. Anticipating being able to work out the bugs with scanning and page size, I'll give this a 3.5 and round up to 4 stars.

(More customer reviews)Bought this in Feb.2007. Features were great. Scan to network (and PDF build) were the main reason for buying this. Fax was excellent. Jams in the doc feeder were more common than should be for something over $2,000 in price.
After the 1-year warranty expired, a cheap rubber belt in the document feeder broke, which stopped the entire printer from functioning. That cost $400, because they won't sell the belt, and the authorized service tech will not do it. You have to buy an entire document feeder assembly, pay for the installation, then the installer takes the old one away.
Now, the printer crashed in the middle of copying. The firmware was trashed and cannot be re-loaded. Wasted 2 hours with HP tech support (which costs $25 for an online chat session). Went through the same procedures I already spent 1/2 hour doing. I kept having to correct the HP rep and repeating steps.
This board replacement will cost $629. But, at least I get my $25 "chat fee" returned. Whoopee. They won't even refer it to our local authorized HP shop that's a mile down the street. They're sending an independent tech. What great business.
If you are going to buy this printer, buy the extended service pack from HP. You will definitely need it.
Started the "chat" at 3:42pm. Ended at 6:11pm. Funny, at the beginning there was a pop-up request for a satisfaction survey. Now that the session has ended...there's no survey.
I'm usually a big HP fan. Their output is never the prettiest, but the machines keep working for years and years, even after heavy use and infrequent preventative maintenance.
Seems like their quality has gone seriously downhill. Just replaced two identical JetDirect cards that went south. Both are three years old...one was never even used. Just sat in the printer.
I hope HP can resurrect their image. Bad techs and broken equipment just won't cut it. Especially when you pay a premium for the brand name.

Brother DCP-7020 Laser Digital Copier/Printer Review

(More customer reviews)I almost never write a review, but the forest of multi-functions is so thick and I am so impressed by my Brother DCP-7020 that I figure I ought to share my personal view of this tremendous small office/home-office machine.
I spent weeks researching and testing multi-functions, going back and forth among Brother, HP, Sharp, Xerox, Canon, and others. What a nightmare, sorting out and comparing all the rival features!
My own needs were straight-forward: truly excellent, professional-looking B&W laser printing and copying capability; reliable paper-path routing with few or no jams; able to handle periodic high volume and otherwise steady daily use; large paper tray capacity; reliable Auto Document Feeder; handy and roomy output tray; acceptable color as well as B&W scanning; and reasonably priced laser supplies that have a reasonably high volume capacity.
While I had no need for fax or networking, I might have taken either or both if the quality of the more important features I sought warranted the extra price. I also was hoping for a stand-alone copying capability, just to give me more flexibility in office machinery since I also have a Brother HL-5150DLT (which is a tremendous stand-alone printer, by the way!)
Several times I almost decided on the Sharp AL-1641CS or its equivalent at Canon and Xerox. My initial misgivings about the latest Brother multifunction machines came down to three things: I was concerned about a few reports of modest paper curling; I was nervous about the paper output slot which seemed at first glance kind of puny and inconveniently located at the inside front, rather than outside to the side, of the machine; and the Brother multi-function machines somehow didn't look to me quite as robust or strong as some of their competitors, at least as they sat on the store shelf.
Repeated testing in multiple stores convinced me that the Brother DCP-7020 was the most likely to meet my needs at an initial price (and also a lower laser cartridge supplies price) so substantially less than the Sharp or equivalents that I decided to 'chance' it, as I thought. It turned out far, far better than I had hoped.
This is a GREAT workhorse machine that takes up substantially less work space and yet turns out excellent laser printing and/or copying with sharp, professional-looking text. Reliable, smooth paper handling with no paper jams to speak of (other than one deliberately caused for testing, which was very easily cleared). Superior copying capability (stand-alone or attached to a computer.) And, though not my top priority, very good scanning as well, supported by excellent, intuitive software.
The earlier review and product descriptions you can read at Amazon.com are accurate. This machine is awesome; the best buy for the money you will find, unless you need faxing capability or color printing in your multi-function. As for my original misgivings, here's my experience:
(1) Paper curling. Not a problem! The paper curling reports are true but greatly exaggerated. Very, very minor curling occurs (probably due to the extreme heat needed for any laser printing), but the paper flattens quickly as it cools and in a minute or so you won't even know it had a slight curl as it emerged from the machine.
(2) Output tray. Not a problem! True, the output slot at the front of the machine looks a little inconvenient or insubstantial, but that turns out to be a mirage, probably because we are so accustomed to expecting to see a bulky exterior separate output tray. The Brother DCP-7020 output tray actually is an innovation. It works perfectly and can hold up to 100 pages, no problem. Lift the lid below the copier and you will see you have access to the entire output tray in all its glory.
(3) The wrong-est I was in my initial misgivings was in thinking that visually the Brother DCP-7020 looked somehow more fragile, or less robust, than the Sharp or similar competitors. It may look that way, but in reality it is every bit as much a workhorse machine as its equivalent competitors. The DCP-7020 is a strong, muscular, and reliable machine. Just a much smaller footprint and at half the price.
Although not my own top priority, I've also been very pleasantly surprised at how good the scanning function is. A couple of reviewers here and there on the web grumble about this, but I found the Brother DCP-7020 scanning function and quality does at least well with color photos as any other $200-$400 scanner I've used, and far better than most of them. The text recognition software is far superior to what most well known competing brands use. And the scanner control panel is very intuitive with good defaults and ample opportunity to easily customize. I've wound up putting my 1 year old $400 HP scanner in the attic.)
I unhesitatingly recommend the Brother DCP-7020. It is everything I wanted in a B&W laser printer/copier/scanner -- and more! -- at half the price of the competition.
Afterword about Brother support: For those concerned about tech support, there is good, and bad, and more good news -- but REALLY good news if you pay attention to what I have to say here.
1. Good news: Brother's toll-free number you can call in an emergency usually leads you to a live English-speaking person who isn't in India or Sri-Lanka or some other Exploited-Labor-of-the-Month hell hole.
2. Bad news: Like the infamous Indian "tech support" people we all know and loath, you probably will get an American who is mostly clueless other than they've been trained to read the manuals. If you haven't read the manual yourself, they can be a kind of "aural" manual and walk you through a few quick fixes. If you know the manual and those fixes haven't worked, go to the next point below.
3. More good news: If you have time to e-mail or call Brother support and ask specifically for a truly knowledgeable tech person to contact you, in a day or at most two you will wind up being called by a REAL expert who will take the time to answer all of your questions patiently and in depth. These people know what they're doing. They're honest and knowledgeable. They are the way tech support used to be, once upon a time.

HP CM2320fxi Color LaserJet Multifunction Printer Review

(More customer reviews)I've long been a holdout on multi-function devices as they never were good at more than one thing.... a good printer, but lousy fax or lousy scanner or even lousier copier. So my office has always had a copier, fax, scanner and printer. In fact, I've had two printers -- a fast b/w laser printer and a color inkjet printer.
Well, that's all changed with this MFP device. Copies are good (both color and black/white. Scans are much easier than my existing computer attached scanner (just hit a button and the scanned images are emailed to anyone), prints are fast, single or double sided, and in color or black/white. Faxing is just as easy.
I'm very happy with it. My wife is very happy with it. My kids are very happy with it.
I've seen on other sites where people had trouble installing the software, but I didn't have any such trouble. Now, for most of the computers in the house, I just installed the printer drivers, while for my Windows 2003 server and my Windows XP laptop, I installed the entire software package so I could play with all the bells & whistles. In either case I had no problems.
Definitely recommend the product. Makes it easy to get rid of any other office equipment (other than the shredder, of course).

We used older Canon model for about 6 years and were very happy with its performance. Then the top scanner broke, so we looked for a newer model from Canon - it suits perfectly a small private practice. It scans, copies, faxes, interacts with networks, you name it... Now if only more retailers had ink supply, that would be the end of the problems. Yes, the ink is expensive, but check the load -number of copies it can produce! It's worth all of it. So if you're looking for a reliable multitasking office copier, don't go any further. I strongly recommend. Oh, by the way, we're still using the old machine - for printing jobs only.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this printer because I wanted something cheaper to run than my HP Deskjet (toner is much cheaper than ink), I wanted to be able to print from multiple computers and put the printer anywhere I wanted (instead of being tethered to a specific computer), I wanted the printer to be Mac-compatible, and I wanted the printer to have a duplexer to save on paper (it prints on both sides of the page). This was the only printer in its price class I could find that had all of these features. I bought the printer on sale locally and got it for a good price.
I ran into one problem, which is why I'm only giving this printer only 4 stars. After I hooked it up and installed the software, I noticed that as soon as it went to sleep, it would no longer print. It's supposed to wake up when it gets a print job, but it wouldn't. I finally figured out that I needed to upgrade the network firmware from the Internet. For someone like me with experience as a PC technician, this was no problem, but I think the installation software should guide you through checking to see if everything is up to date, and help you upgrade the firmware.
The paper tray only holds 300 pages, which is less than a ream of paper. At 30 pages per minute, you could run out of paper in only 10 minutes! So it may not be the ideal printer for all but the smallest office settings (but still better than an inkjet for b&w printing). However, I believe you can add an additional paper tray, and there are other models with extra paper capacity built-in.
When I ran into my problem with sleep mode interfering with printing, I e-mailed Brother's technical support (they don't give you a number you can call), but I don't think a human actually reads your e-mail. It was pretty frustrating. Next time I'll try calling their customer service line and see if they can transfer me to tech support.

Panasonic Multifunction Laser Printer (KX-MB2010) Review

(More customer reviews)Every six months I was buying $40-$80 worth of ink for our old InkJet printer. It was getting old. Fast.
My wife finds all sorts of online coupons and deals which often need to be printed. If you are familiar with printing coupons, you know many websites circumvent the printers options and print out in full color, wasting as much ink as possible along the way. I decided it would be best to get a low-cost laser printer so we could save some money on ink costs.
After much research, I stumbled upon the Panasonic Multi-Function Printer. What caught my eye first off was price. It was well south of $200 AND it offered scanning and copying capabilities. This seemed too good to be true. I looked up some reviews and watched a couple of product demos and decided to take the plunge. I ordered it via Amazon Prime and received it in two business days.
So far, the positives have been how quickly it prints, being able to network the printer (meaning I can print wirelessly and from any computer in my home) and being able to make copies. Another advantage is making full-color scans and sending them to any computer you want (or to email). I have been able to make backup copies of things like warranty information, receipts, birth certificates, tax documents, etc.
There are some negatives. For one,we have a laptop running Apple's OSX 10.4.X. I had to go to their website to get the driver and discovered I would not be able to scan unless I updated this computer's operating system. When I checked Panasonic's site previously, it stated the requirements where simply having OSX. There was no reference to the version number. I wish it would have been a little more specific so I would have saved myself some frustration.
Overall, I do like this printer. It does its job, its fast, its easy, and convenient. I highly recommend this printer to anyone looking to make the leap from InkJet to Laser printing.

Brother MFC-8460N Network All-in-One Laser Printer Review

(More customer reviews)I also have a problem with the printer creasing envelopes. It appears to shift the flap of the envelope slightly while feeding it through the fuser and the heat and pressure causes another crease about 1/8" offset from the original one.
I returned the first unit that I ordered because of a loud squeaking noise that developed while printing. The second unit also squeaks somewhat (Certainly more than my old mfc-8820D), but it doesn't sound like it's dragging a cat through the manual feed slot.
There's a big difference between this unit and my MFC-8820D in the scanning area. On my old printer, I could input an email address on the screen and it would forward the document to that address. This guy requires you to select a network computer and then sends the document there. A memory resident program needs to be running on the computer to process the received document...which is a worthless waste of memory space about 99.99% of the time when the computer is doing it's normal job. The memory resident process also conflicts with some HP network printer software and crashes on a couple of our systems, thus rendering them unusable with this scanner. Needless to say, the old way of doing it was much better.
In retrospect, and despite the 145,000 pages printed, I probably should have spent the $300 to replace the fuser on my 8820D instead of getting this unit. This one is much faster, but the other trade-offs - the lack of duplexing (known at the time of ordering, but the 8860DN wasn't yet shipping) and the dumbing down of the scanner firmware (unknown until received) are serious handicaps.
Oct 30, 2006 update - After about five month of use and about 20K pages printed, my printer is in the shop being repaired. The printer started making loud snapping sounds, like plastic gears stripping, whenever a page was printed...except that the paper jammed every time. The guy in the service center said that he has another identical printer in for repair and that it's the fuser unit that's shot. That would be easy to fix, except that they're on back-order and won't be available for a while. Sigh. I think my next printer will be an HP.
November 14, 2006 - I have to give Brother Service credit. 1000 pages post-repair and my machine broke again. They're shipping me a new printer. This will be my second replacement unit...hopefully this unit will be more solid as my warranty runs out in April.
November 25, 2006 - update - The replacement unit not only shifts the flap on envelopes, it puts creases all over them, rendering them completely unusable for any purpose. If there was a way to totally unwind this purchase, I would in a second. On the other hand, since design of this unit appears to have all the reliability of an alcoholic after a weekend on the town, I purchased the one year extended warranty.
February 10,2007 - update - Well, the machine is now starting to make loud snapping sounds whenever the paper tray is filled up to the full line. It also jams and refuses to feed paper whenever that happens. The solution (so far) is to only fill the paper tray half-full.
I really dislike this piece of junk...so much so that I bought HP for my new offices.
May 13, 2008 - final update - After limping along in the old office for the last year, the Brother finally died (again). The big question is whether to take it to recycling yard, where they would gently take it apart and salvage the parts, or take it to the local car crusher and watch it receive what it deserves. Alas, my ecological side is coming through and I'll recycle it. Oh well, it would have made a great YouTube video...

Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)This printer doesn't have the 'built-like-a-tank" feel or weight of my old Laserwriter IIg, but it's far quicker and less troublesome. If you want to do black-and-white printing on a budget, I highly recommend it. I use it to print book drafts and even the 8-point type in footnotes is sharp and clear. The driver installed quickly and worked without a hitch on my Mac mini and MacBook.
Installed to run over an Ethernet network, this printer has a rudimentary web page server that allows you to use your web browser to configure some of its features remotely, including the print resolution and a toner save mode. You can also see how many pages you've used on the toner and drum, so you have an idea when each needs replacing. The web page configuration information is buried in the Network User's Guide, so I'll post it here. (Voting this review helpful will keep in near the top and help others to see this posting.)

Panasonic Multifunction Laser Printer (KX-MB2000) Review

No. It doesn't.
I bought a copier that does nothing else.
I have two different Macs, followed their directions downloaded from the website. No printing.
Tried it with USB. Nope. LAN. Nope.
The computer sees it. I even managed a scan via USB, although I want to set it up on the network.
I'm no novice at setting these things up. I'm the guy techies come to with questions.
Called Tech Support. After a long hold, transferred. Another long hold: "This is Canadian support." I'm not in Canada. "I'll transfer you." An hour later I was told, "Oh, yes, we know that's an issue. We'll call you back."
A week later, no call back. No printing. No more buying a Panasonic.
Now the support website, which was previously slow, won't even come up.

UPDATE: Success!
It took two weeks, multiple additional phone calls, many more phone transfers and--finally--a call back from someone who actually knows the product, networking and Macintosh. It took some serious networking knowledge (you have to know what the numbers mean in a Subnet Mask, for example), but between the two of us, we figured it out.
It wasn't a simple fix and it required trouble-shooting steps I've never taken before in more than 20 years of computing. But now it prints and scans on the network. Now that it works, I actually like the machine. But all those hours required to get me here won't soon be forgotten.

Canon MF6590 Copier/Scanner/Printer/Fax DUPLEX/NETWORK w/NEW 106 Toner Review

(More customer reviews)I have a small office and work from home as a data analyst. My job revolves around printing and scanning a vast amount of data. The Canon 6590 is very easy to install and configure. The unit is very fast printing (24ppm b&w) and scanning (20ppm??). It has a very quick warmup time and fits nicely next to my two monitors and keyboards. The unit comes with a very reliable 128 MB which allows me to add up many different jobs at once, and the printer is able to handle them all very well and without crashing, which is an issue to many other laser printers with lower memory. The paper handling is convenient because it provides with a large capacity. The autofeeding mechanisms are also well polished and I never experienced a paper jam perse, only false alarm paper jams. The only issue with this printer is that it does not provide color printing for its price range.

Samsung Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer (SCX-4623FW) Review

(More customer reviews)I previously had Samsung SCX-4100 (connected to Windows XP PC). It worked well but was getting old (at least 5 years old).
I ordered new SCX-4623FW. After installation from the CD, I could print from the local
PC (connected via USB) and from other PCs in the house (wifi connection).
I am now using Windows 7 64 bit. The Samsung Scan Manager will not install on my PC. I tried to
install from the CD and also went to Samsung website and downloaded latest Scan mgr.
software. It would not install either. I installed the Samsung SmartThru4 software (which
worked correctly with SCX-4100) but it could not recognize the new SCX-4623FW printer.
I suspect the problems I am having are related to the fact that I am using Windows 7 64 bit (though
the Samsung website said the scan mgr (which I downloaded) would work with Windows 7 64 bit.
