OK I have to brag, had a friend at Dell give me a 17% off discount when I ordered my computer system. Then he emails me a 30% off coupon for a printer and asked if I needed one. Wasn't planning on getting a printer, but with that discount I had to see what was available. When I saw the 30% was ADDED to the 17% system discount I had to jump on it. Bottomline it cost me $380! LOL
It's pretty new but I managed to find one review to make sure it was good before I bought it. Am I Glad I did. Just found another review at MacWorld that placed it second to the $800 Xerox, basically because the Xerox is more quiet.
Even at the regular price of $650 it's a great buy. Manufacturers are notorious for BS on their print speeds, but this thing smokes! It's very close to the 23 ppm advertised speed, but what's really amazing is how quick it spits out the first page.
The important part, flash and features aside, the print quality on black and white text is amazing, incredibly sharp. The color is good, but on some photos I think the output needs to be calibrated, makes some images a little reddish.
Love most of the features, it's nice to be able to scan pages right to your computer as a pdf file to easily email.
The ONLY donwside I have with this computer which was a disappointment is that I couldn't set it up to email a scanned image directly from the printer. For some dumb reason the software to set it up to email docs asks for the primary smtp gateway address, but only accepts a numerical address instead of textual(like you would enter with outlook) so bottomline I spoke with 4 different Dell techs and none of them could make it so it could email via my qwest account's smtp server. So that is a feature I would have liked, but unless Dell comes up with a fix I won't be able to. That being said I can scan to my computer and then attach doc to email, but an unnecessary extra step.
As for noise, it's a little loud when in action, but I think that's typical for color lasers and not any louder than some HP's I have tested in stores.
Copy speeds are great and images are very close to originals. Scanned images look great as well.
If you are tired of slow and expensive to use color ink jet mfp's, take the step up to laser with this great offering by Dell, you won't be disappointed!

Brother MFC-9420CN Network-Ready Color Laser Flatbed MFC Review

Brother MFC-9420CN Network-Ready Color Laser Flatbed MFC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I compared this to all the alternatives in the market (i.e. HP, Epson, Canon) and as of Jan. 2006 it has by far the best specs and nicest features. I have the printer setup using the Ethernet connection, drivers installed very easily and though still on version 1.0 seem to work very nicely. Printer came very nicely packaged and with very easy instructions on how to put it together.
Problems or things I have noticed so far are as follows:
1.) Printer makes lots of noise moving the different toner color cartridges in and out, kind of a clumping noise.
2.) Envelope printing is terrible, as mentioned by others. The printer can not print close to the edges so when printing a return address the text does not look good. I have never seen this problem on any other printer, even though the Brother manual states it can not print close to edges. It should be able to print as close to the edges as required by Microsoft envelope mode, IMO. Envelopes I use that are just a bit thicker then normal get stuck in the printer and will not work. There is a setting for thicker paper in the driver which may help but a nuisance to change just to print an envelope, and you can not get to the driver when printing with Microsoft Word envelope feature. Would need to make the change permanent in printer preferences and then go back into Word. Lots of trouble to print an envelope.
3.) No manual feed paper slot is another inconvienience. You have to load any special paper or envelopes into the tray each time. With all this work required to print an envelope your probably better off blowing off the dust on your IBM Selectric.
4.) Brother support via email just sends you canned responses and the two questions I had, I don't think anyone actually read the questions.
Overall though the printer is suitable. The copy feature is very nice and easy to use. Just load the paper in the auto feeder and press the COLOR or BW button. Finally I agree with the other poster here also, putting the big marketing sticker on the front of the machine was not a class act. I have not tried to remove it yet but it looks like it would be a pain. Still probably the nicest low cost, All In One, Color on the market. At least until a single pass color unit comes out. Hope my review was some benefit.

APC - Hub - 7 x Hi-Speed USB - desktop Review

APC - Hub - 7 x Hi-Speed USB - desktop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The hub works well overall.
The stand is very light and flimsy so any cable pressure will drag
the unit around or topple it. My stand in particular was not level
so I had to bend it a little to prevent it from wobbling.
An external 2.5" portable drive seems to work fine when plugged into
the hub.
However, even though it is a "powered" hub it does not provide enough
power to charge an iPad (to be fair a lot of PC laptops don't either).
An iPhone was also a bit fiddly as far as getting recognized by iTunes
and getting charged - likely because there is borderline enough power
for it.
Expect to have to charge iPads with a recent Mac's built-in USB port
or external power supply, and iPhones with a Mac/PC's built-in USB
port or external power supply.
The main reasons to get this hub over others (powered or unpowered) are
the good number of ports (7), the fact that it does seem to power external
laptop drives well, and the hopefully better quality and longevity over
other brands (I've read some scary reviews about other powered hubs frying
devices that were plugged into them).

b/w copies come out brown. According to Brother accurate color is not guaranteed! If standard built-in tests come out right then I have to take it to a service center and if they agree there is nothing wrong, then I have to pay the service charge. Brother will not exchange for another, only issue credit on customer paid return shipping. Now I see why local retail stores don't carry this product!

HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-in-One Printer / Copier / Scanner Review

HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-in-One Printer / Copier / Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this printer on a whim after having been a satisfied Canon user for a decade. I learned my lesson and will never buy another HP product. This printer worked well for about one month of light use. After this, it began to have problems picking up paper. I have used only HP Bright Inkjet paper, and the paper is crisp and fresh, so it's not a problem with humidity or curled paper. It's reached a point where every sheet of paper has to be individually coaxed into the feed mechanism. Even then, it jams about half the time.
It's hard to believe that HP did not discover this problem during product development and testing. Yet they have put this piece of junk on the market. I'm having to write mine off as a loss because it's now too late to return it to the store, and HP's only solution is to replace it with the exact same printer with the same problem. I'm hoping someone files a class action suit against HP for the junk they put on the market.

Sharp AL-1540CS Digital Copier/Printer/Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you can handle the toner costs, this units works well as a copier and it's very impressive at copying photographs. Sharp puts the same workings into a slightly different case and sells it to Xerox where it is retagged as a workcentre. We've had this Xerox unit at work and it has been great as a copier but we had to remove it from printer duty because it was always locking up and printing solid black pages whenever we asked it to print documents over about 3 pages long. I bought the Sharp for my home hoping the problem was fixed. Long story made short: It wasn't. I took it back and got a Brother that produces quality that is about the same but it prints faster and doesn't lock up.

Lexmark X4270 Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer Review

Lexmark X4270 Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Oh, how I wish I could give this terrible product 0 stars! One star is one too many!
I didn't expect great prints from a printer with this low of a cost but the initial print quality was only barely acceptable. After just 3 prints, the grays in my pictures started printing as light blue. After 6 prints, the black started printing in streaks and the pink stopped working. Cleaning the cartridges' print heads fixed the problem for the pink but not the black. If I print out a letter, it is so streaked that it is unreadable. If I print a picture, it is washed-out, blurry AND streaked. After going through all the offical help steps, the official recomemdation is to replace the black cartridge - after less than 10 prints! At this rate, it will cost me $3 per page to use this printer!
I needed something that would print at least decent quality pictures and text - this was not it!
Be warned - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Spend little - get VERY little in return! If you want a decent ink jet printer - stick with HP, or possibly Epson or Canon. Do NOT waste your money on a Lexmark product.

Corex CardScan Executive with Version 5.0 Software Review

Corex CardScan Executive with Version 5.0 Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was originally very excited about this product and purchased two, one for myself and one for my brother. The CardScan will enable you to scan most of your business cards and save them in your system, thus having it all at your fingertips. The software is great, allowing you to assign categories to all the contacts, to search for contacts in various ways, and allowing export/import/transfer of data to and from PIMs, utility programs and even to PDAs. I use Outlook at work but I find the CardScan software to be more powerful for contact management.
The scanner works well most of the time. With the Auto Scan feature you can set your cards down and, if all goes right, come back later to verify the information. Cards are rapidly read and the images stored until you verify the accurate placement of the card information into the software fields.
This leads me to one of the major problems with the CardScan. Understandably it's difficult to account for all business card formats, with the contact info. being placed in all possible ways. Corex has not fully figured out how to ensure placement of the card info. into the software fields. Only about 50% of the time was most of the info. properly placed. Otherwise you'll have to go through and cut and paste into the correct fields.
The CardScan does not always cleanly scan the business cards. The software is designed to allow you to compare the scanned image of the card to the fields to which the info. was assigned. Good idea but doesn't work so well. To verify that the card was read properly, you'll have to keep your scanned cards with you. Of course, once it's verified you can put the cards away for good.
Two great features of the CardScan: (1) it allows you to scan the back of the business card and (2) you can make your own entries for those cards that are too difficult to read.

The Corex CardScan Executive 500 is an ingenious device designed to help you organize all the business cards you acquire into an easy-to-use contact database. Simply stick a business card into the scanner, and the CardScan 500's OCR technology extracts such information as names, e-mail addresses, and company, placing them into your contact manager for easy reference.
The CardScan 500 integrates nicely with ACT, GoldMine, Groupwise, Lotus Notes, Lotus Organizer, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Schedule, Sidekick, and other popular programs, while also providing one-touch synchronization with Windows CE and Palm handheld devices. A PC-only device, the CardScan connects to your computer via USB or parallel ports, and can even connect to your digital phone with separately sold Fonesync software and cable.

Epson Stylus CX7800 All-in-One Printer, Copier, Scanner Review

Epson Stylus CX7800 All-in-One Printer, Copier, Scanner
Average Reviews:

The bonus here is the included negative scanner. I didn't buy this from Amazon (sorry, someone else beat the price), but I am pleased with it.
The other reviewer (at this time) complained about the lack of usb cables--but I'm not entirely sympathetic. First, this is standard practice for Epson. If you didn't know it wasn't there, then you probably haven't bought an Espon before this. Second, there is actually a good reason for this: most people are not buying a first printer at this point, and pretty much all cables are the same (as long the connectors fit, you're good to use it). This cuts down on their costs, which hopefully means a slightly less expensive printer. I personally have 3 or four cables for this printer, and don't want any more.
As far as quality goes--I don't have any complaints. It does borderless (edge-to-edge) printing on cardstock (doesn't support it on regular paper) without any problems, which is one of the things I look for in a printer. It also doesn't show any banding or striping, which is good for printing photos.
Memory stick support is good (I have a Sony camera that uses Memory Stick), and works well.
Overall, a solid printer. As long as the print heads stay clean, I'll be happy.

Officejet L7555 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier
Average Reviews:

The great thing about technology is it keeps getting better and cheaper. For the cost of this printer several years back you could get a jetdirect card. Now you get built in networking, memory card readers, scanner, color printer, and fax. Of course the real killer and money maker is in the consumables. $40 per cartridge x4 adds up quickly. However; this all-in-one does a great job in the other functions.
I have it networked in my home. The setup was direct and simple with the only trouble being my firewall settings.
It scans in color, has OCR software, and comes with a few nice pieces of software, such as picture management, scanning, setup, and web based monitoring.
The copier feature is really nice and being able to do B&W as well as color copies at home is really nice.
You have the tools on had with this system to digitize old family albums, edit/enhance them, and then print it out in one machine.
The speed is also impressive. My last home printer was an Epson that was over 5 years old and slow. This HP spits out high res color prints at incredible speed.

I purchased this because my PSC2210V was showing its age. I am not dissappointed. I have spent the last 2 weeks putting it through its paces with my iMac G5 (Note to Mac users: It works with Airport!!!). The print quality was at least equal to that of a 1 hour photo place. On normal documents it is up to twice as fast as my PSC2210 was. Scan speed was a lot faster (yes, the scan data comes via the 802.11g port!) than the PSC2210 and quality was quite good. Even the flash memory cards transfer though the wireless connection. my only negative so far is that it lacks a dedicated envelope slot (you have to remove the paper and feed envelopes through the main paper tray) but that is a minor nit. The guy who gave this 1 star because of reginal coding of the cartridges must be a seller of refilled cartridges becuase this is not a portable -- you're not going to take with you on a trip. It would only be an issue if you moved from the US to england. Igonre his review and take it from me, you will love this printer.

Sharp Electronics XEA406 Cash Register Review

Sharp Electronics XEA406 Cash Register
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The register itself seems pretty solid and will work well for a small business. However I was having trouble getting the drivers to work so I could run the setup program from my laptop. Upon a call to Sharp I am informed that Sharp does not offer any drivers that work with 64 bit operating systems. You can however still just transfer the information from an SD card between a computer and the register.
*Follow up*
So now that we have an SD card for the register we are unable to get that to work either. My most recent call to Sharp I am now being told we cannot use the SD card either on a system unless it is Windows XP 32-Bit edition which is the opposite of what the last e-mail support reply I got said. While the register seems like it would work fine if we could ever program it, Sharp's customer support so far is terrible. I'm being told different thing by different people, the service on the phone is hard to understand (overseas call center possibly?) and the email support is slow to respond.

HP Deskjet F2120 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier Review

HP Deskjet F2120 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've got huge computer issues in my house. We're O-Soo-cutting-edge here. But our latest upgrade rendered my connection to the network printer just about nonexistent --painfully slow when it worked and sporadic in its choice of what it deemed worthily of ink.
So I decided, as a stop gap, I'd buy the cheapest littlest printer I could find. I could just put it on a table in my office and stop running up and down the steps to see if my print jobs happened. If they ever get the network set up right, then I could ditch the little printer and go back to the mother ship for quality.
I bought a little HP Deskjet F2120 -- all-in-one printer, scanner, copier. In fact, I did not know about the all-in-one virtues til I got this baby home. I just wanted little and cheap. I also did not know about the OCR software that's included or its ability to do two sided printing. (I haven't tried either yet, but THAT it's included is a nice feature.)
What a surprise! This little baby is F A S T .. much faster, at least in the black and white mode, than the fancy Cannon we run on the house system. I'm not sure how it will last. But as most of what I print is just to read, mark up and then toss, I'm thinking this could be a nice little addition to my office equipment.

*** Update February 22, 2009 ***
New rating: 1
(The Amazon site won't let me change the actual rating so the best I can do is put in this comment.)
After 9 months the printer started malfunctioning. With full ink cartridges it would print horribly as though it was out of ink. I had an extended warranty but was told they can't get parts to fix it. Fortunately I was allowed to exchange for a different make. Until now all of my comments below held true - but reliability with this unit seems to be a problem.
*** Original Review***
I have had the printer for about 2.5 months now and haven't had any problems. Had it set up and working in a matter of minutes.
Some other reviewers seem unhappy about its lack of bluetooth or that it doesn't have a USB cable in the box. This didn't bother me because I wasn't expecting it to be bluetooth compatible, and I knew it didn't have the USB cable in the box.
Pros:
- Easy set up. Installed drivers from CD, plugged in USB cable, worked like a charm.
- Prints fast
- I love having scanning and copying capabilities built in. Have used both and it worked just fine.
- Inexpensive ink
Cons:
- Louder than most printers (I have seen other reviewers comment on this as well)
- The paper tray design is a little weird. The output paper almost lies on top of the input paper. Seems to work fine for smaller print jobs but my guess is that it wouldn't for larger print jobs.
- Copying/scanning must be done one page at a time. But this is typical of most home printers.
- Would be nice to have automatic duplex printing. But most home printers don't.
So if you're looking for a high end professional office printer for high volume copying, duplex printing, etc., then this probably isn't the printer for you. If you need a decent home printer/scanner/copier it works great.
